Minister Pandor to sign SA’s MoU on Science and Technology

Today, Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor will sign South Africa’s first memorandum of understanding on Science and Technology with Vietnam in Pretoria.

The Memorandum of understanding paves a way for the establishment of formal science, technology and innovation relations between the two countries by facilitating the development of bilateral agreement.

Ministerial spokesperson Lunga Ngqengelele said we are quite excited as the Department of Science and Technology to have finally reached this.

Ngqengelele said “as I have said, this is the first of its kind and we hope it will give our scientists an opportunity to work with our Vietnam counter parts”.
Meanwhile, Meanwhile, Minister Pandor has urged all citizens to participate in National Science Week activities, saying this should stimulate interest in the public, especially in young people.

She said the DST valued science today so that the country could look forward to young scientists fulfilling their potential in a science based future.
Ministerial spokesperson Lunga Ngqengelele said the Minister was addressing about 4000 people including learners, educators and parents at the launch of the National Science Week at the North West University in Mafikeng.

Ngqengelele added that the Minister said there were various career options in the science and technology fields for young people.

He said it is important they take these subjects very importantly and choose them when they choose careers in universities.
