Law enforcement officials have managed to arrest six of the seven inmates who escaped from Groenpunt Correctional Centre last week Thursday.

Seven suspects escaped in the early hours of Thursday morning through an unbarred toilet window, with one suspect being arrested hours after the escape took place.

Phillip Tivane who is serving 35-years in prison for rape is the only offender who has not been arrested.

Department of Correctional Services Logan Maistry said these shift arrests were only made possible through the sheer determination and perseverance of our correctional officials of the South African Police Service and other law enforcement agencies.

Maistry said these officials have been working around the clock after the escape in the early hours of last Thursday morning and for this they must be praised.

“We are certain that they will not rest, until the last offender is back behind bars.” Maistry concluded.
