An accident late last night on the R34 near Virginia in Free State left three people dead and multiple critical injured.

It is believed that a bus rear-ended a truck.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said they arrived on scene and found the two large vehicles crushed together. The entire front section of the bus had been completely ripped open.

“On inspection of the scene, paramedics discovered that three people had been crushed in the front of the bus. Unfortunately all three patients had sustained fatal injuries.” Meiring added.

He also said that a number of other patients were found on scene with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported to them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
