Africa said 3 141 speed checks were
conducted on vehicles and 457 drivers were prosecuted for exceeding the speed
limit.
Africa said one pedestrian was killed in
Du Noon, two passengers died in an accident near Ceres and one passenger died
in a head-on collision in Kraaifontein.
Over the
past weekend Western Cape Traffic officials had 24 road blocks throughout the
province.
A total of
3 390 vehicles was stopped during the road blocks and 1 608 drivers were tested
for alcohol.
Western
Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said 28 drunken drivers were arrested.
Six people
were also arrested for various offences, one for not being in possession of
necessary permit, two arrested for reckless and negligent driving, one arrested
for overloading his goods vehicle, one person arrested on a warrant of arrest
and a drunk pedestrian was arrested.
The highest
speed recorded over the weekend was 164km/h in a 120km/h zone; the speed was
recorded in N1 near Brackenfell.
