City alarmed at attempted armed robberies

Cape Town police says they are alarmed at two attempted armed robberies in the province today.

This follows an incident where five men tried to rob a cash-in-transit van in who was busy collecting money from businesses in the Harare.

The men who were in a white Isuzu allegedly fired several shots at the vehicle but the driver immediately reversed at a high speed and it was fully bulletproof.

The suspects left and fled in a brown colored Honda Ballade

No on was injured and no cash was taken.

In another incident, six armed robbers were arrested in an attempted armed robbery at a printing company in Epping this morning.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said, “Police spotted three suspicious vehicles in the area and placed them under observation.

"Police officials nabbed the seven suspects when they approached a business in Fisher Avenue with the intention to carry out an armed robbery intervened.

"On of the men were injured during the operation."

Three firearms, believed to be stolen were confiscated.

The men will appear in the Goodwood court on charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of illegal firearms and the possession of stolen vehicles.
