The City’s Metro Police Officers are applying an approach in policing drunk driving on the province’s roads.

This week 11 motorists were arrested for drunk driving at a roadblock in Khayelitsha.

In Atlantis two motorists were arrested for the same offence.

Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says this follows the arrest of 44 motorists over the past weekend for drunk driving of which 36 were in Mitchells Plain, seven in Kuils River and one in Atlantis.

“The officers also conducted vehicle and foot patrols in Fisantekraal, Durbanville concentrating on illegal drugs and anti-social behavior.

Thirteen people were arrested for riotous behaviour after they became hostile when they were searched. Some of the suspects were swearing and wanted to attack the officers and were restraint and arrested. An additional four people were arrested for drinking in public,” Faro said.

Faro has reiterated that they will conduct regular patrols in the areas where shooting incidents took place over the past weekend.

“We want to once again encourage the public to come forward with information regarding criminal activities in their communities”.
