Incidents of school violence a grave concern - Pandor

Education Minister Naledi Pandor has given the clearest indication yet that random drug testing may be on the cards in schools. This comes about as Pandor describes the behaviour of some pupils ‘psychotic’ and violent.

Speaking in the national assembly a day after grade 10 pupil Nkonsana Simon Mbhele was murdered by a fellow pupil at Forest High School, Johannesburg, she appealed for support if she went this route.

Shrugging off apparent attempts by opposition parties to place the blame for school violence at her door, Pandor said; “Any person who believes that the murder of the young Mr Mbhele was a result of indecisiveness is high priest of exaggeration.”

All incidents of school violence were a matter of grave concern to her as it should be to everyone in the country, she said.
